Due to a sharp decrease in rainfall and the impact of El Niño, the canal water level is under pressure.
From August 21st, the number of lock slots available for ships booking on or after September 4th will be reduced.
✅The number of lock slots available daily at the New Panama Locks has decreased to 9.
✅Lock slots have been significantly tightened for the second booking cycle; conditional locks are temporarily unavailable.
Tight bookings mean longer transit times for direct routes to New York, Savannah, and Houston. Plan your shipments in advance and allow for buffer time. Current waiting times are 15-20 business days or more.
